Dark WaterA cliched but otherwise fine horror movie with a haunted building. Ariel's role isn't huge, but every minute of it is adorable.
Dahlia moves into a gloomy, run-down apartment block in New York with her
daughter Ceci, played by Ariel. Strange and ominous things start happening,
first in form of an ugly, spreading water stain in the ceiling, and later
other flooding-related events. The film is technically fluent and presents
skillfully created visuals of the rainy, overcast, concrete-heavy city. The
character of Dahlia as a loving, stressed-out mother is also deeper, more
real than many horror movie characters. The story however is overly routine
stuff of the haunted house genre, making for a bit dull exprience.
Ariel, despite her mediocre acting, is extraordinarily adorable. Not just
sweet like any pretty chipmunk-voiced little one, but something out of
ordinary. The role is on the large side of medium, in terms of screen time,
but lacks the depth that would qualify it as a large role.
Perla has a very small role as a haunting girl, and only has a few lines of
dialogue.
