Emily of New Moon

A weak adaptation of a girls' book. Romantic and overly dramatic, but with a strong performance from Martha as Emily.

A TV series based on a girls' book of the same name, written by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1923. The adaptation is poor, and also, reportedly, rather different from the book, all the way to the personalities of the core characters. The style is very romantic and frequently overtly dramatic. Martha performs well as the main character Emily, with personality and spirit, but no acting skill could overcome the poor writing. Technical quality is also exceptionally poor for a relatively recent production.
