Hide & SeekAn ordinary thriller despite its big-name cast. Dakota's performance is much better than the movie deserves.
This horror thriller starts out promising, with a great cast, credible
characters, and high production values. Dakota plays Emily Callaway, whose
mother has committed suicide. To get out of the house, her father, a
psychiatrist, moves into a large summer home with her.
Emily seems to not be well. She draws disturbing pictures, paints bloody
messages into bathroom wall, and blames this on her imaginary friend
Charlie. True to the genre, things keep getting worse. Is Charlie not quite
so imaginary after all?
The strong start is in vain as the movie falls into the usual templates.
Dakota's role remains that of a troubled child whose purpose is to be
ominous. Other characters are plagued by similar simplicity. The best part
of the film is Dakota's unique look with black hair and at one point gothy
clothing.
