ParadiseThora's role isn't as bad as it could be in this kind of bland, low-budget drama movie about marital problems, which isn't saying that so much. She does get to show off her usual cuteness and spirit though.
Willard's parents' marriage is in trouble, and his mother sends him to
spend the summer at her friend's house in the countryside. Turns out the
marital life isn't much better in that family, which situation becomes one
of the major plots of the movie. In parallel develops a friendship between
Willard and Billie Pike (Thora), a girl living next to them. The whole
package is rather uninspiring. A genuine touch in some scenes doesn't make
up for unnecessarily low pace, contrived plot, and poor production values.
Thora's acting as Billie is enjoyable because of Thora's sheer cuteness and
characteristic spirit. Billie is quite the tomboy, and dares cautious and
intellectual Willard into various mischief. The character gets a decent
amount of development, and good dialogue with Willard. That's all good, but
her dialogue sounds frequently recited, and I'm not sure a tomboy role is
the best fit for her.
