The Lovely BonesPeter Jackson's unsuccesful vision of heaven. A girl is raped and killed, but it takes time and effort for her to learn to accept that she's now in heaven, which can be a place of joy if she allows.
Susie Salmon is lured into an underground lair by his creepy neighbor, and
gets raped and murdered. She finds herself in a rather surreal, dream-like
heaven. She can see her parents and her murderer continue their lives, but
can only affect them very slightly.
Although based on a popular and supposedly good book, director Peter
Jackson's adaptation is a failure. We know the setting from the beginning,
and there are few surprises over the course of the story. The heaven is
just silly.
Saoirse does well as Susie, but it's hard to care too much about the
character. Which is a lethal problem when the story centers on her.
